BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Thursday urged party leaders and activists to prioritize the concerns of ordinary citizens over their own.

“You must always represent the people. Don’t talk about your own problems—listen to theirs. Work to solve their issues,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled “Plan for Nation Building,” organized by BNP at the Krishibid Institute in Dhaka’s Khamarbari area. He joined the program virtually from London.

The session was chaired by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and moderated by Joint Secretary General Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel. The week-long program, which began December 7, will continue until December 13, with grassroots leaders from BNP’s various affiliated organizations participating daily. Rahman has delivered remarks during the second session each afternoon.

Earlier Thursday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the event.

Tarique questioned whether any political party other than BNP has presented detailed plans for the country. “Have you seen it in any newspaper? You haven’t. We are the ones who presented it. We have given specific action plans on health, education, climate, employment, agriculture, and trade,” he said.

He added that BNP has fulfilled its promises in the past and will do so again if elected in the future.

Addressing party members, Tarique said: “If—with Allah’s grace—you are elected and form a government, that government will not be your party’s government. It will be a people’s government. We will represent not only those who vote for us but also those who don’t.”
