BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday sought prayers for his mother, Begum Khaleda Zia, ahead of her funeral at Manik Mia Avenue.

Speaking on behalf of the family before the namaz-e-janaza, Tarique Rahman appealed to all to pray for the eternal peace of his mother.

He also said that if anyone had any financial claim against Begum Khaleda Zia during her lifetime, they should contact him, assuring that such dues would be settled. “If anyone was hurt by her words or actions, I seek forgiveness on her behalf,” he said, urging everyone to pray for her.

Begum Khaleda Zia, widely known as an uncompromising political leader, died at 6am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.

The passing of the country’s first female prime minister and BNP chairperson has cast a deep shadow of grief over the nation’s political landscape. Her death marks not only the end of a major political chapter, but also the close of an era.
