BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday urged a thorough investigation into the motives behind the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha.

Addressing a BNP-organized workshop titled “Plan for Nation-Building” at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in Farmgate, Dhaka, via video link as chief guest, Tarique said: “Yesterday, miscreants carried out an attack on Sharif Osman Hadi. He has been shot and is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition. We must examine whether there was any malicious intent behind this attack.”

He warned against ongoing conspiracies, adding: “If we fail to remain united for the welfare of the country, the nation will be destroyed. Conspiracies can only be halted through the establishment of democracy. Therefore, elections must be held at any cost.”

Calling for unity, Tarique Rahman further said: “Let us stand united. The plans we have made must be taken to the people and explained to them. If we clearly communicate our plans, success will surely follow.”

The seven-day BNP programme is being held in phases, with participation from party units across the country. The discussion meeting was chaired by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Convener of the Programme Implementation Committee and BNP Senior Joint Secretary General, and moderated by Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel.
