Independent aspirant Dr Tasnim Jara has successfully collected the required number of voter signatures to qualify for the Dhaka-9 parliamentary seat, marking her first major step in the election process.
Under Bangladesh Election Commission rules, independent candidates must gather verified signatures from at least 1% of registered voters in their constituency. For Dhaka-9, this meant collecting signatures from a minimum of 4,693 voters.
Dr Jara began her signature collection drive on Sunday, setting up booths in Khilgaon and Basabo.
By Monday afternoon, officials confirmed that her team had exceeded the required number of signatures in just one day. She then submitted the collected signatures to the Dhaka divisional commissioner and the returning officer at Segunbagicha.
Earlier,Tasnim Jara had stepped down from the National Citizen Party (NCP). With the successful collection of signatures, she has now cleared the first hurdle to contesting the election.
The next step involves the Election Commission verifying the submitted signatures. Once verified, Dr Jara will be able to officially file her nomination papers and move closer to contesting the Dhaka-9 seat.
This achievement reflects strong public support and gives her campaign a significant boost as the parliamentary election approaches.
