The 68th sugarcane threshing season of Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Ltd. was inaugurated on Saturday by dumping sugarcane in a donga at the “Cane Carrier” premises of the sugar mill.
Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) Chairman (Additional Responsibilities) and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Rashidul Hassan inaugurated the season at a programme there as the chief guest.
The inaugural ceremony, organised by Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Ltd., was presided over by the Managing Director (MD) of the mill Md. Shahjahan Kabir.
Deputy Commissioner Ishrat Farzana, Superintendent of Police Md. Belal Hossain, Secretary of BSFIC Mohammad Mujibur Rahman and Chief of BSFIC (TS) Manjurul Haque were present as special guests, among others.
During the time, various senior officials and employees of Thakurgaon Sugar Mill, Panchagarh Sugar Mill, Setabganj Sugar Mill were present.
This year, the target of sugarcane planting at Thakurgaon Sugar Mill in the sugarcane threshing season is 90,000 metric tons while the production target is 5,670 metric tons and the target of sugar extraction is 6.30 per cent.
In the 2024-2025 planting season, there are 6,060 acres of standing sugarcane, and the target of sugarcane planting is 6,500 acres in the season of 2025-2026.
In the current season, 3,000 acres of land have been planted (in progress) so far. The threshing workday is estimated to be about 70 or 80 days.
Thakurgaon Sugar Mill has been occupying the first or second place in sugar production among all the sugar mills across the country by maintaining a relatively high level of sugar quality and extraction.
Those concerned are hopeful that it will continue to maintain that consistency throughout the season.
