A clash broke out between bus workers and students over half-fare at the Nathullabad Central Bus Terminal in Barisal on Saturday evening, bringing traffic to a standstill for nearly three hours.
The incident occurred around 7pm, during which agitated students reportedly vandalised several buses.
While police confirmed damage to at least 10 buses, transport workers and students claimed that as many as 50 buses were ransacked.
Students said two BM College students travelling from Muladi to Barisal attempted to pay half fare by showing their student identity cards, but bus workers refused. An argument ensued, which soon escalated into a scuffle and eventually a clash.
Arju Mia, a bus worker, alleged that students vandalised at least eight buses during the unrest.
Airport police station Officer-in-Charge Mamunul Islam said the situation was brought under control and traffic resumed after 9pm following police intervention.
A tense situation was still prevailing in the area as of Saturday night, according to both students and transport workers.
