A truck loaded with soybean oil worth over Tk 24 lakh that was hijacked in Bogra by criminals posing as DB police has been recovered early Tuesday.

After being chased by members of the Highway Police Sherpur Camp, the hijackers abandoned the truck near Ghoga Bridge on the Dhaka–Rangpur highway in Sherpur upazila and fled into the nearby forest. Although the truck loaded with soybean oil was recovered, no suspects could be arrested.

Police reported that 70 drums of soybean oil, worth more than Tk 24 lakh and belonging to City Group, were loaded onto a truck and sent toward Dinajpur.

The police set up a checkpoint in front of Nabil Restaurant on the Dhaka–Rangpur highway in Sherpur. At about 4:15 am, they noticed a suspicious truck and signaled it to stop. But the driver ignored the signal and attempted to flee toward Dhaka. Sergeant Masud Rana, who was leading the patrol team, and other officers pursued the hijacked truck in a pickup.

When the truck reached the Ghoga Bridge area, a barricade was set up on the highway. The hijackers then abandoned the truck and fled into the forest. From there, the truck loaded with soybean oil was recovered.

It was learnt that 7–8 hijackers in a microbus, posing as DB police, had hijacked the truck from in front of the Mahasthangarh footbridge on the highway under Shibganj Police Station.
