The Great Victory Day was celebrated with due respect and a festive atmosphere at Khulna Agricultural University (KAU) on Tuesday.

The celebrations began at sunrise with the hoisting of the national flag at the university’s temporary Campus-1 in Deyanamadhyapara, Daulatpur. At 10:00am, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Nazmul Ahsan placed a wreath at the portrait of the National Memorial in tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War.

Treasurer Prof Dr Shamim Ahmed Kamaluddin Khan, Registrar Md Rezaul Islam, along with teachers, students, officers and staff from different departments of the university, were present at the programme.

Speaking after laying the wreath, the Vice-Chancellor said, “December 16 is a historic day for the people of Bangladesh. On this day, we commemorate with deep respect the martyrs who brought us victory in 1971.”

He prayed for the eternal peace of the martyred freedom fighters, martyred intellectuals and all freedom-loving people who laid down their lives during the Great Liberation War, and expressed his heartfelt sympathy to their bereaved families. He also paid respectful tribute to the students who sacrificed their lives for democracy and freedom of speech, from the Language Movement of 1952 to the movements of 2024.

To mark the Great Victory Day, the university organised a day-long friendly sports competition and cultural carnival at its temporary Campus-1, adding colour and enthusiasm to the celebrations.
